Halvor Borgstrøm (15) tok tre bronsemedaljer i UM i Stavanger.

Halvor Borgstrøm  svømmer for Randaberg IL. I UM og junior-NM i Stavanger i november ble det totalt syv bronsemedaljer individuelt og på stafetter for klubben.

Borgstrøm trener 12 timer i uken. Det er under halvparten av det konkurrentene trener.

– Vi trener ikke så mye, men vi er nøye med detaljene og gjør arbeidsoppgavene skikkelig. Hvert eneste svømmetak er viktig, sier Borgstrøm.
– Blir du ikke utålmodig, vil du ikke slå de andre nå?
– Nei, jeg vet at de som er bedre enn meg nå, tar ut for mye i ung alder. Jeg stresser ikke med det, tenker ikke så mye på å være best nå, selv om jeg er giret på å gjøre det godt i mesterskap. Det er om noen år jeg skal være best, sier Borgstrøm selvsikkert.

Mentale prosesser

Pappa, Arne Borgstrøm, er amerikansk mester i svømming, individuelt og for lag. Han vant NM-gull 99 ganger, har 12 gull i nordisk og ti nordiske rekorder.
– Halvor og de andre i RIL bygger opp motoren litt senere enn de andre svømmerne, som trener dobbelt så mye. Deres trening er på voksnes premisser. Med så store treningsdoser er det en stor sjanse for at fremgangene stopper opp. Vi har fokus på nøyaktighet og mentale prosesser, sier Arne Borgstrøm.

Treningsvolumet økes

RIL Svømming vant tre bronse i stafetter: 4×100 meter fri, 4×50 meter medley og 4×50 meter fri. I stafettene svømte Maurice Sudkamp, Håkon Ludvigsen, Halvor Borgstrøm og Håkon Torstrup. Individuelle bronsemedaljer: Håkon Ludvigsen på 200 meter og 200 meter butterfly. I juniorklassen: Øystein Fjeldberg på 200 medley og 200 meter butterfly.

– Det er fantastisk at en så liten klubb tar medaljer i UM og junior-NM. Vi trener mindre enn konkurrentene. For at vi skal bli best, må vi trene best og være best på detaljene i treningsarbeidet. Treningsvolumet skal økes senere. Målet er å skape gode seniorsvømmere, sier RILs trener, Håkon Henne.
